Each volume will contain missioned essays by an international team of scholars, together with a substan- tial bibliography, and will serve as a reference work for stu- dents and nonspecialists. One aim of the series is to dispel the intimidation such readers often feel when faced with the work of a difficult and challenging thinker. Marx was a highly original and polymathic thinker, un- hampered by disciplinary boundaries, whose intellectual in- fluence has been enormous.
