Abstract
ABSTRACT
Metaphor studies have been carried out for a long time from different perspectives,
ranging from rhetoric, functional-structuralism to pragmatics. In recent years, the study of
metaphors in English from a critical point of view has arisen, but rarely has attention been paid
to explore critical metaphors in Chinese TV programs. This will form the main issue of this
study.
The proliferation of TV talk shows has e an integral part of modern day living.
This paper aims to identify, interpret and explain metaphors used in typical Chinese TV talk
shows so as to explore the functions of metaphors within the framework of cognitive linguistic
