What is a “supply chain”
Classically, “supply chain management” deals with the logistics of
managing the delivery of material from suppliers, through
manufacturing, and to customers.
Today, supply chain management has turned into “value chain
management”, and additionally covers:
– Price and contract negotiation
– Relationship management with suppliers and contract manufacturers
– Supplier sourcing allocations
– Product test and quality
– Product lifecycle management, cost tracking, and cost reduction
– Platform engineering and design
– Warranty/repair, and failure analysis
–Etc.

Why and how did supply chain evolution
enable cost reduction?
Many answers, but let’s look at two:
