What is a “supply chain”
‰ Classically, “supply chain management” deals with the logistics of
managing the delivery of material from suppliers, through
manufacturing, and to customers.
‰ Today, supply chain management has turned into “value chain
management”, and additionally covers:
– Price and contract negotiation
– Relationship management with suppliers and contract manufacturers
– Supplier sourcing allocations
– Product test and quality
– Product lifecycle management, cost tracking, and cost reduction
– Platform engineering and design
– Warranty/repair, and failure analysis
–Etc.
