Abstract : A terra in estimation algorithm ba sed on Kalma n filter is proposed. Combining with gra dient anoma ly
measured by gravity gradiometer, the a lgorithm achieves the purpose of terra in estima tion by improving the accu-
ra cy and resolution of a low-resolution priori terrain. By introducing slope theory and rectangular prism method,
system error model a nd measure equation of the Ka lman filter are built first. After that a simulation research is
ca rried out to investiga te the effect of a lgorithm. The simula tion a na lyzes terrain mean noise, ra ndom noise and
gravity gradiometer precision. s influence on estimation accuracy. At last, a n area estima tion simulation is also
investigated. T he results show that both the precision a nd resolution of estima ted terra in have improved, which
confirmed the correctness of the algorithm.
