First of all, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all the respectable
professors at Anhui University who have taught and helped me in my post-graduate
studies, especially to Professor Zhu Yue, Professor Zhou Fangzhu, Professor Zhang
Ming, Dr. Hu Jian, Professor Tian Debei, Professor Chen Zhengfa, Dr. Yang Ling and
Ms. Xie Jinsha.
Special thanks go to my supervisor, Professor Zhu Xiaomei. Without her patient
guidance, careful revision and insightful instruction, I would never have been able to
bring this thesis into light. Her erudition, strictness and patience as a supervisor;
kindness and tolerance as a friend make my study more than meaningful. I do wish to

Abstract
Writing is a productive skill of a language, which is considered as the most
difficult skill of the four language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
Writing is a process of forming a text which serves as munication bridge
between the writer and the reader. Despite the importance of writing in second
language acquisition, it has long been considered the most difficult task for teachers to
teach and for students to acquire this skill. So how to improve Chinese students‟
