Based on trauma theory,the present study investigates characters’trauma frommultiple levels,covering safeplace importantly, the investigation emphasizes Morrison’Sviewpoints of trauma and recovery. This thesis contains three parts:introduction,the main body and main body consists of three One elucidates thetrauma thatthetwo femalecharacters一衍olet and Dorcas root oftheirtrauma can beascribed tolossofsafespace. Chapter Two analyzes thetrauma caused by identity with two male characters,Joe Trace andGolden Gray forparents can be regarded as their pursuit of indefinite identity according to to confirm their identity,Joe and Golden Gray evidently display traumaticsymptoms. Chapter Three approaches the possibility of trauma recovery. Morrison shows the significance munication inthe process of trauma music and dialogues,African Americans can recollect theirtraumatic past,alleviate andhealtheir haunted trauma.
