Abstract
Verschueren’s Adaptation Theory defines language use as the continuous making of
linguistic choices. Four angles have to be taken for investigation when es to
language phenomenon, . contextual correlates of adaptability, structural objects of
adaptability, the dynamics of adaptability and the salience of adaptation processes. As the
four angles are in perfect agreement with the linguistic, social, cultural and cognitive
elements involved in the dynamic process of language use, it is employed to study the
special process of language use— translation, among which, culture-specific expressions,
as something that is accumulated from the long history of some munity
reflecting its distinguishing, unique activities is especially a translation focus and knot.
