1 Scope
This standard specifies the structure, performance and test method of braking systems for road
vehicles.
This standard applies to the braking of vehicles of categories M and N and of trailers of category
O.
This standard does not cover the vehicles and their trailers with design speed under 25 km/h and
the vehicles specialized for handicapped drivers.

provisions of this National Standard. At the time of publication, the editions indicated were valid.
All standards are subject to revision, and parties to agreements based on this national standard are
encouraged to investigate the possibility of applying the most recent editions of the standards
indicated below.
GB 13594—1992 Vehicles anti-lock braking systems performance requirements and test

3 Definitions
Approval of a vehicle
It means the approval of a vehicle type with regard to braking.
Vehicle type
It means a category of vehicle which do not differ in such essential respects as:
Motor vehicles
a) the vehicle category;
b) the maximum mass;
c) the distribution of mass among the axles;

d) the maximum design speed;
e) the braking device (with more particular reference to the presence or otherwise of
equipment for braking a trailer);
f) the number and arrangement of the axles;
g) the engine type;
h) the number and ratios of gears;
