摘要
Fauconnier 和 Turner 提出的概念整合理论为文学作品的研究提供了一种新
的理论基础。作为认知语言学领域的重要理论之一,概念整合理论具有强大的认
知力,能够揭示语言使用的心理运作机制,帮助人们解释语言构建过程中的思维
变化, 以便对文学作品创作过程中的想象力和创造性有更加精确与深刻的理解。
本文运用概念整合理论从认知层面分析 Naipaul 作品中文化意象的深刻涵
义,旨在阐释概念整合理论对文学作品中文化意象的解释力,并通过对 Naipaul
作品中文化意象进行认知解读来进一步认识作者的多元文化身份,从更深的层次
来解读 Naipaul 及其作品。
本论文选取奈保尔代表作中的 4 个意象作为样本,以概念整合理论中的认知
机制来揭示这些文化意象所蕴含的文化意义。通过整合,可以得出:《抵达之谜》
反应了作者融入英国文化过程中的困惑和迷茫,是作者英国文化身份的自我追
寻;“房子”意象表达了作者对特立尼达的家园情结,是其寻求故土文化身份的
象征;“黑暗”意象是奈保尔对印度文化的鞭策,作者有着无法割舍的印裔文化
身份;《河湾》中的“转折”意象意味着奈保尔文化身份的转折,作者表现出对
第三世界文化的关注,呈现出其世界公民的文化身份。
通过分析可以发现:概念整合理论的应用可以延伸到小说中去,因为小说中
的文化意象含有丰富的认知涵义。用概念整合理论分析小说中的文化身份,能更
深入地了解文化意象背后作家的文化身份,有利于对作者的多元文化身份的正确
认识。

A Dissertation for the Degree of Arts
Abstract
Conceptual blending theory, proposed by Gilles Fauconnier and Mark Turner,
provides a new perspective for the study on literary works. As one of the major
theories in cognitive linguistics, conceptual blending theory has great cognitive force,
which can reveal the hidden cognitive mechanism involved in the language use and
explain the change of thinking in the process of language construction. Conceptual
blending theory can also interpret the imagination and creation in position of
literary works accurately and thoroughly.
