和其他艺术形式一样，平面设计的创作离不开感觉。作为生活中最普遍的心理现象，感觉是人类获取外界信息的根本途径和创造性思维的活动基础。当代心理学研究揭示了感觉的生理本质，即：感觉是人脑对直接作用于感官的客观事物个别属性的反映。人的眼、耳、鼻、舌、肌肤等感觉器官受到来自体内外的各种刺激后会产生一种神经冲动，这种神经冲动传递到大脑的特定部位后引起相应的反应，从而形成了感觉。
人类具有多样化的感觉，根据刺激的类型和反映的特点可分为生理感受和心理感知两种类别。生理感受是感觉的初级形式，指人脑通过感官对所受刺激作出的直接反应，如疼痛、冰冷、耀眼、嘈杂、麻辣、柔软、清香等；这些反应基于我们常说的“五感”，即视觉、听觉、味觉、嗅觉、触觉。其中，视觉是人类最主要的感觉形式；在我们所接受的外界信息中，
