论文摘要
在中国文学史上有一个被人忽视的现象:从中国小说的发展历史来看,以道家
思想为指导进行小说创作且成绩优秀者不多见,倒是在中国小说的发展过程中出现
了众多优秀的儒家式和道家式的作品。如古典小说《三国演义》《水浒传》和《野叟
曝言》等更多涉及的是儒家文化的内涵,而《西游记》和《红楼梦》则崇尚佛文化
的精神;中》是以儒家文化思想为靶
心的典范,以写宗教题材闻名的现代作家许地山的小说、著名剧作家曹禺的创作涉
及到的是基督教文化思想,乡土小说家汪曾祺的《受戒》讲的是美的令人心醉的佛
家文化⋯⋯然而林语堂的小说则是以道家思想为指导,并且获得了巨大的成功。
本文拟通过对林语堂小说创作中道家思想及其现代性转换、渊源的剖析,来展
示“两脚踏中西文化、一心评宇宙文章”的林语堂在东西方文化融合上的文化观,
以期填补中国小说发展史上道家小说研究的空白,使得中国小说发展史的研究更为
完整。固然林语堂对道家思想的一味提倡在当时环境来说有些不合时宜,甚至遭到
摒弃,但从文化观上来说,林语堂的道家思想在现代社会中越来越显示出它的价值。
林语堂的创作观或许能给我们带来有益的启示?

Abstract
In Chinese literature history ,it is a phenomeno being overlooked that throughout
the adventure of novel in china, those who considered Taoism as guilding ideology
had rarely made great achievements. On the contrary, many marster pieces were
Confucian-style or Tao-style. The Romance of the Three Kingdoms, the Water
Margin, the Imprudent Discourse of Ye Sou and some other famous novels probed
the nature of Confucianism; Journey to the West and A Dream of Red Mansion
advocated Buddhism; Diary of the Madman, written by the Luxun, is a model
emphasesing the theory of Confucianism; novels written by Xu Dishan who is
famous for his religious-themed novels, and the works of the famous playwright
Cao Yu were more or less influenced by Christianity; Initiated Into
Monkhood,written by the local native writer Wang Zengqi, help the readers to better
understand the profound Buddha , novels of Lin Yutang were
based on Taoism, and had achieved great ess.
Lin Yu tang had a great understanding of both western and eastern cultures and
committed himself in appreciating literature of different countries. This article will
demonstrate Lin Yutang's culture perspective in the fusion of western and eastern
cultures through analysis of the Taoist eth
