论严歌苓海外小说女性生存的文化心态

摘要
移民是当前社会文化研究的重要课题之一。全球化背景下的移民得益于经济的
发展和科学的进步,并影响到社会、政治、文化等方方面面。本文以分析新移民作
家严歌苓的海外小说作引,主要考察她海外小说中的女主人公在移民之后所体现的
文化心态。华人种族特性、特殊的文化、社会身份,使女性移民者们在移民国大多
被“主流”、“中心”边缘化,在与外族社会相处的过程中无法得到认同,同时她们
还得承受来自男性与父权社会的双重压力,故其生存处境十分痛苦和尴尬。中国文
化根深蒂固的影响、西方文化的新移植以及两种文化之间的差别,给这些女性移民
的认知和感受带来深厚的影响。这种影响既反映到语言层面,也涉及到风俗习惯、
精神灵魂等更深层面。在异域求生存的女性移民们也因此而展示出一种不同于国内
女性生存的生命图景。
从严歌苓的生命经历我们不难发现:移民生活赋予了严歌苓另外一种审视中西
方文化的视角,让她能有机会从两种文化的夹缝中观察并体悟不同文化背景下人的
生存境遇及文化心态等多方面的问题。这种视角由于有了一套新的参照坐标因而显
得更加成熟和理性。在同时观察并反思东西方文化的前提下,严歌苓尝试着去解读
身处异国他乡、接触不同民族和文化的移民在新的环境中顽强生存下来的精神内涵
与文化底蕴。也许在她的眼中,从人类这一宏观角度来说,更深层次更普遍的人性
追求最终可以消除因国家、种族、文化给人带来的差异和隔膜。虽然这可能只是一
种无法成为现实的梦想,但是严歌苓投射给处于弱势地位的移民女性群体的目光体
现了她作为一个新移民作家的独特价值。此外,她的创作对于我们研究全球化背景、
语境下的文化交往、冲突以及当代海外华人文学无疑都具有很大的帮助。

Abstract
Immigration is one of important subjects of modern social-cultural research. In the
international background, immigration benefits from the development of economy and the
improvement of science and technology and it has affected society , politics , culture and
other aspects. This paper will based on new immigrant writer Yan GeLing’s overseas
novels and then analyzes the cultural mentality embodied in her novels’ female characters
after their immigration. Their Chinese racial attributes, special cultural and social identity
made these female immigrants wonder beside the edges of immigration country. They
couldn’t get identity from munication with the people in different society, and they
should bear dual pressures of male and patriarchal society which led them to live in pain
and in an embarrassment situation. The deep influence of Chinese traditional culture, the
new absorb of western culture and the differences of these two cultures brought female
immigrants’ identification and feeling new influence. This influence includes languages,
